Model Tests on Determining the Effect of Various Geometrical Aspects on Horizontal Impedance Function of Surface Footings

Problems associated with soil-structure interaction have been determined and the Impendence Functions (IFs) evaluated. The aim of this paper is studying horizontal impedance function for surface footings by physical model tests. For purpose, a cubic steel container was used as testing environment two different conditions, rigid base, homogeneous half-space model. effect various parameters such footing shape, embedment ratio, inertia, dynamic force amplitude studied in three shapes; rectangular, square, circle footing. results indicated that massless theory confirmed at Dimensionless Frequency (DF) less than 2.5. Also, base model, soil response heavily depends on vibration frequency, developed boundary conditions side walls, contrast to distribution reflection waves soil, dissipation higher wave energy substantially influenced soil–foundation system. Additionally, ratio significantly affected functions.
